Overview
Carbon Clean describes itself as a point source carbon capture specialist, providing industries with next generation solutions to adapt to a net zero world. The company states its mission is to capture 1 billion tonnes of industrial CO2 emissions, capturing CO2 at source rather than relying on offsets. Founded in India in 2009 by Aniruddha Sharma and Prateek Bumb while at university, it moved to London in 2012 following a UK government grant of £3.5m. Its technology is optimised for industrial environments where space is tight and efficiency is a priority, and it offers scalable, modular solutions alongside expert installation.
History
Carbon Clean was founded in India in 2009 by Aniruddha Sharma and Prateek Bumb while at university, where they spotted an opportunity to improve upon conventional carbon capture solvents. In 2010 the company made its first patent filing, arriving at a patentable formulation of amines and salts called Amine-Promoted Buffer Salts, which it describes as central to its success. In 2012, following a UK government grant of £3.5m, London became its new home. In 2015 it was announced as a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer and received a second UK government grant to support bench-testing of a rotating packed bed (RPB) absorber. In 2016 its technology was used in the world's first fully commercial CCUS plant at Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals & Fertilizers in India. In 2018 it received a third UK government grant to support the scale up and testing of rotating packed beds to capture 1 TPD CO2.
