Overview

CARAC2, formerly known as One TV, is a private French-language television channel serving Switzerland's Romandy region. It is owned by Media One Group, a media group active mainly in the Lake Geneva area, covering the cantons of Geneva and Vaud. The channel is a television spin-off of the Geneva-based radio station One FM and began broadcasting its programmes on 3 February 2016. It was launched simultaneously with LFM TV as part of Media One Group's strategy to develop the brands of its two eponymous radio stations. In September 2023, One TV was rebranded as CARAC2. The channel remained available on the same distribution channels, and a new website, carac.tv, was created for watching the live stream and replays. CARAC2's programming is primarily music videos, reflecting its origins as a visual extension of One FM. It also broadcasts filmed radio shows such as "L'Happy Hour" from One FM, and the radio programme "L'équipe du Matin" appears in a televised version called "Les Clips du Matin." The channel additionally airs all of its event productions, and each evening it shows two films or TV movies in the late-night slot. The 2016 Swiss Music Awards were broadcast as its first live programme. The channel's programmes are entirely financed by advertising and managed by Media One Contact SA, which sells advertising space for the One FM and LFM radio stations as well as for NRJ Léman and Nostalgie Léman. In 2016, the channel's director was Alexandre de Raemy, and its headquarters are in Geneva. CARAC2 is distributed on analogue cable (UPC Cablecom) in the French-language package, via Swisscom TV, and online through streaming on its website. Since 12 June 2020, it has also been available on the Grand Genève digital terrestrial television (TNT) network on channel 4 (UHF channel 34). As part of the CARAC family of channels, which also includes CARAC1, CARAC3, CARAC4 and CARAC5, CARAC2 occupies a music-and-entertainment niche within the Swiss French-language media landscape, closely tied to the radio brands of Media One Group.

History

CARAC2 was originally launched as One TV, a television offshoot of the Geneva-based radio station One FM. It began broadcasting its programmes on 3 February 2016. The channel was created simultaneously with LFM TV as part of Media One Group's effort to develop the brands of its two eponymous radio stations. In 2016, the channel's director was Alexandre de Raemy, and its headquarters were located in Geneva. The 2016 Swiss Music Awards were broadcast as the channel's first live programme. From its inception, One TV functioned as a visual extension of One FM, primarily airing music videos. It also broadcast filmed versions of radio shows, including "L'Happy Hour" from One FM, and the radio programme "L'équipe du Matin" was adapted for television under the name "Les Clips du Matin." The channel also aired all of its event productions, and each evening it showed two films or TV movies in the late-night slot. On 12 June 2020, the channel expanded its distribution by becoming available on the Grand Genève digital terrestrial television (TNT) network on channel 4 (UHF channel 34). In September 2023, One TV was rebranded as CARAC2. The channel remained visible on the same distribution channels, and a new website, carac.tv, was created to allow viewers to watch the live stream and replays. The rebranding aligned the channel with the CARAC family of channels, which also includes CARAC1, CARAC3, CARAC4 and CARAC5. Throughout its history, the channel's programmes have been entirely financed by advertising and managed by Media One Contact SA, which commercialises advertising space for the One FM and LFM radio stations as well as for NRJ Léman and Nostalgie Léman. The channel is distributed on analogue cable (UPC Cablecom) in the French-language package, via Swisscom TV, and online through streaming on its website.
