According to the Little Trees official site, the story began in 1952 when a milk truck driver in northern New York complained to Julius Sämann about the smell of spilled milk. To address this, Sämann combined exceptional fragrances with specialized blotter material and invented the first car air freshener, giving it the shape of an abstract evergreen tree in honor of his years extracting aromatic oils in Canada's pine forests. The air fresheners proved an efficient, high-quality solution and soon sold widely, with orders coming from all over the country and gaining a strong international following. The first fragrances were Royal Pine, Spice, and Bouquet, and the range later expanded to include Caribbean Colada, Vanillaroma, New Car Scent, and Black Ice. The Tree air fresheners are made in factories in Watertown, NY and DeWitt, IA. The product range expanded with additions such as Vent Wrap, Spray, and Fiber Can. The site states that Little Trees is headquartered in Watertown, New York, USA.
