CAP Scientific Ltd was a British defence software and systems company established in 1979 by four former employees of Scicon, a BP subsidiary. History
CAP Scientific was founded in 1979 by four colleagues from Scicon, a BP subsidiary. They sought to establish a specialist United Kingdom company supplying software and computer systems for defence applications and obtained financial and organisational backing from CAP-CPP. The company entered a defence market in which large prime contractors generally delivered purpose-built military computers, but CAP Scientific pursued partnerships and newer distributed-computing approaches. The subsequent 1999 merger of British Aerospace and Marconi Electronic Systems created BAE Systems, under which parts of the former CAP Scientific operation continued, including activities later associated with BAE Systems Insyte.
