History

Cap'Cinéma was founded in 2000 by Philippe Dejust in Blois, France. The company grew into a network of 24 cinemas across various French cities. In November 2017, 22 of the 24 cinemas were acquired by the CGR group. The All That Jazz tour, which had organised concerts on seven Cap'Cinéma sites from 2009 to 2018, was not renewed by CGR. The Périgueux multiplex opened in April 2005, replacing the former Marignan cinema. It was built as part of a redevelopment of Place Francheville, with a total budget of €6.2 million excluding tax and ten months of construction. The multiplex initially had ten screens and 1,873 seats. In 2013, attendance dropped 11% to 337,000 admissions from 380,000 in 2012. In 2014, all seats were replaced, and admissions exceeded 367,000, up 9% from 2013. By 2016, admissions reached 374,926 as of 28 December, with an annual target of 380,000. At the time of the CGR acquisition in November 2017, the Périgueux multiplex had ten screens, four equipped with 3D projectors, and 1,795 seats. In Marseille, a cinema on La Canebière was leased by Philippe Dejust's company, with opening planned for October 2021, under a 58-year emphyteutic lease granted in 2018.
