Overview
Canal 18 was a Spanish subscription television channel produced by Chello Multicanal. Its programming centered on X-rated cinema. It was launched in September 1997 and closed on 2 September 2013, being replaced by Dorcel TV. The channel began broadcasting in September 1997, and on 30 September 2004 when the Vía Digital platform started operations. It aired suspense, horror, and comedy films made in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as pornographic cinema from 12:00 am. At the end of 1999, it was acquired by Mediapark and its programming focused on horror cinema (while maintaining the midnight pornographic film quota). In November 2006, the channel began sharing its signal with Dark, which aired current horror cinema until 1:00 am as well as television series such as Masters of Horror and Freddy's Nightmares. At that time, Canal 18 broadcast only for 4 hours, leaving Dark responsible for the rest of the programming. Due to the purchase of Teuve (formerly called Factoría de canales, and previously Mediapark) by Chello Multicanal, in July 2009 Dark disappeared and it was the channel Buzz Rojo, specialized in horror cinema in the afternoon and prime time, that merged with Canal 18. On 2 September 2013, for legal reasons, Chello Multicanal eliminated Canal 18 after 16 years of uninterrupted broadcasting, and it was replaced by Dorcel TV, another European channel that was born in 2006 and also broadcasts erotic content.
