Campbell Lutyens was founded in London in 1988 by John Campbell, Richard Lutyens and Bill Dacombe. The pineapple, symbolising success through enterprise and generosity in dealing with others, became the firm's logo. In 1991 the firm completed its first fundraising mandate, for Mercapital, a Spanish private equity fund. In 1999 it established its secondaries advisory practice. In 2004 its New York office opened, establishing the firm's presence in the US. In 2006 Campbell Lutyens began advising on infrastructure mandates, a first mover among placement agents. In 2010 it opened a Hong Kong office, following many years of activity in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2014 it raised its first private credit fund, for Metric Capital Partners II. In 2018 its Chicago, Los Angeles and Charlotte offices opened, bringing the total number of offices in the US to four, in response to increased demand across North America, and its Singapore office officially opened, supporting the continued expansion of the firm's fund placement and secondary advisory business in Asia-Pacific. In 2021 its Paris office opened, enhancing its offering to clients across continental Europe, and Campbell Lutyens began specialist advice on a wide range of strategic situations including GP M&A. In 2022 its first Japanese office opened. In 2023 it expanded further in Europe and opened an office in Munich.
