Overview
The Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) is a non-profit organization specializing in the collation, preservation, and application of scientific structural data. It offers the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), a trusted resource containing fully curated organic and metal-organic structures used by researchers worldwide. The CCDC provides data, software, and services for pharmaceutical, functional materials, crystallography, agrochemical, academic research, and teaching applications. It is committed to educational outreach and programs such as PhD sponsorships and the FAIRE Access Programme.
History
The CCDC grew out of the activities of the crystallography group led by Dr Olga Kennard OBE FRS in the University of Cambridge. The group began to collect bibliographic, chemical, and crystal structure data for small molecules and encode it electronically. This would become the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), one of the first numerical scientific databases to begin operations anywhere in the world. In 1965, Dr Olga Kennard set up the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC). The CSD was founded in 1965. Now a self-funded charity, the CCDC pursues its core mission; to advance structural science for the public benefit. Today, the CSD and associated software are essential tools used by thousands of scientists globally.
