History

The history of Maison Richard begins with its founder, Pierre Fayel, and continues with his son Auguste; the official founding date dates back to the purchase of a wholesale wine warehouse at 11 rue des Cailloux in Clichy in 1892. Henri Richard, cousin of Auguste Fayel, joined the company in 1920 and acquired it in 1938. In 1955 André Richard, eldest son of Henri, joined the company and launched its coffee roasting operations in Asnières; in 1964 his brother Pierre Richard came on board after completing his studies, expanding the coffee business in Paris and establishing Cafés Richard as an independent entity. In 1976 Cafés Richard chose Gennevilliers to establish its roasting facility, which still serves as the company's headquarters today. In 1980 Cafés Richard expanded regionally, starting with Tours, which became the company's second roasting site. In 1989 Expresso Service was created. In 2000 Comptoirs Richard boutiques were launched, extending Cafés Richard's expertise to the general public. In 2002 the Coffee Academy and the UniversiThé were created.
