Ransomware-related customer-data breach
Caesars disclosed that an external information-technology vendor had been compromised by a cybercrime group identified in reporting as Scattered Spider or UNC3944. The incident exposed driver's-license information and potentially Social Security numbers associated with a significant number of loyalty customers. Caesars said its casino and hotel operations were not disrupted in the same manner as its information systems and acknowledged paying a ransom. Civil lawsuits followed, alleging inadequate protection of personal information.
