Overview

C12 Quantum Electronics is a French quantum computing company founded in 2020 by twin brothers Matthieu and Pierre Desjardins, spinning out of the ENS Physics Lab in Paris. The company designs quantum hardware using carbon nanotube spin qubits, aiming to build a universal fault-tolerant quantum computer. Its technology stack includes a Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) powered by carbon nanotube spin qubits, a superconducting quantum bus for long-range entanglement, and low-level operating software for real-time calibration and error correction. C12 offers the Callisto Discovery cloud-based quantum emulator and the Prometheia Suite of workshops, training, and proofs of concept, targeting industries such as chemicals, aerospace and defense, energy, and finance.

History

C12 Quantum Electronics was founded in 2020 by twin brothers Matthieu and Pierre Desjardins, spinning out of the ENS Physics Lab in Paris with scientific advisors Takis Kontos and Matthieu Delbecq. In June 2021, the company raised USD 10 million in seed funding and grew to ten employees across three sites. In 2022, it filed a first wave of foundational patents covering qubit control, carbon nanotube growth, and quantum device architecture. In June 2023, C12 released Callisto, a quantum emulator grounded in carbon nanotube physics. In October 2023, it opened an 800m² fabrication hub in Paris with cleanroom, cryostats, and full-stack control. In June 2024, the company closed an €18 million pre-Series A round. In October 2024, it reported a breakthrough in coherence time.
