The academy has three seminar rooms, two lecture halls, a conference room, and an orchestra hall built in 2006. History

The Bund Deutscher Blasmusikverbände e.V. (BDB) was founded on 29 October 1950 in Donaueschingen, when eleven men decided to establish an umbrella association named "Bund Badischer Volksmusikverbände". This was a re-establishment, as efforts to create an overarching organization had existed before World War II. In 1926, an working group of music associations was formed, with the "Oberbadische Musikzeitung" (founded 1924) as its official organ. In 1930, this working group renamed itself "Bund Südwestdeutscher Musikvereine" and held its first federal music festival in 1933 in Freiburg im Breisgau. However, after the Nazi takeover in 1933, the association had to cease activities; it was incorporated into the "Reichsverband für Deutsche Volksmusik", which was subordinate to the Reichsmusikkammer. This arrangement lasted until the end of the war. After the war and the official re-licensing of association activities, music associations were gradually re-established in Baden. In 1948, the Hegau-Musikverband was founded, followed in 1949 by the Alemannischer Musikverband and the Verband Schwarzwald-Baar. In 1950, several more were founded, including the Acher-Renchtalmusikverband, Blasmusikverband Bodensee-Linzgau, Blasmusikverband Hochrhein, Blasmusikverband Hochschwarzwald, Musikverband Kinzigtal, Markgräfler Musikverband, Musikverband Mittelbaden, and Oberbadischer Blasmusikverband. These regional associations eventually united under the BDB. The BDB has since grown into a major umbrella organization representing 16 member associations across three federal states, with around 250,000 musicians (70,000 active) in 1,100 member clubs as of 2019. It operates a music academy in Staufen im Breisgau, offering training and seminars. The academy building includes an orchestra hall built in 2006. The BDB is a member of the Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Musikverbände. Its current president is Patrick Rapp.
