Its name translates from Indonesian as 'Healthy Mother Earth Foundation' ('Bumi' meaning earth-mother, 'Sehat' meaning healthy). History

Bumi Sehat Foundation was founded in 1995 by Robin Lim as a not-for-profit organization based in Bali, Indonesia. The name 'Yayasan Bumi Sehat' translates to 'Healthy Mother Earth Foundation'. Lim's vision was to work in partnership with people to improve the quality of life of underserved populations and combat Indonesia's high maternal and infant mortality rates. In less than two decades, the foundation grew to operate two fully-functioning Community Health Clinics in Bali and Aceh, employing more than 80 full-time staff members, providing more than 50,000 health services annually, and bringing more than 600 newborns into the world each year. The clinics are open 24 hours a day and are staffed with midwives, doctors, nurses, and international volunteers. Bumi Sehat has also developed youth education and capacity-building programs, environmental initiatives such as village-based recycling (which led to the recognition of Nyuh Kuning as the cleanest village in Indonesia), and disaster relief programs. The foundation has been accepted to GlobalGiving's Accelerator challenge to win a spot as a permanent non-profit partner. It continues to publish annual reports and provide free educational resources.
