Overview

BSP Regional Energy Exchange - South Pool, commonly known as BSP SouthPool, is the operator of the organised electricity market in Slovenia. Established on 8 April 2008 by Borzen, the state-owned Slovenian energy market entity, together with Eurex Frankfurt, it organises day-ahead and intraday markets that give its members a liquid, competitive and transparent environment for trading electricity. The company also provides efficient financial settlement of transactions and transparent publication of market results, and it is the designated electricity market operator (IOTEE) for the implementation of single day-ahead and intraday market coupling in the Slovenian bidding zone. BSP operates under the BSP SouthPool brand and trades on both the Slovenian and Serbian markets. Its core products are the day-ahead market, the intraday continuous market with hourly and quarter-hourly products, and the intraday auction. In 2022 the company took a major step toward regional integration with the creation of the ADEX Group, the first regional energy exchange for Central and South-Eastern Europe, officially established on 23 December 2022 in Ljubljana. BSP is one of ADEX Group's three wholly owned subsidiaries, alongside SEEPEX and HUPX. Today more than 120 members trade electricity across the BSP, HUPX and SEEPEX spot markets, and trading volume across ADEX Group's markets was expected to exceed 50 TWh in 2024. The company is led by General Manager Anže Predovnik, who is also Chairman of the Management Board of ADEX Group. BSP has continued to expand its regional footprint, including ADEX's cross-border move to Budapest in October 2024 in cooperation with ELES, EMS, EPEX SPOT and MAVIR, and it remains an active participant in European market integration initiatives such as the Electricity Market Integration Forum and Europex.
