Overview

Browar Grybów (also known as Browar Pilsweizer S.A.) is a regional brewery located in Siołkowa, near Grybów, in southern Poland. Its origins trace back to 1804, when the first mentions of a brewery in Siołkowa appear, but the industrial brewery is considered to have been founded in 1887, when Hungarian brewer Franciszek Paschek acquired the estate and began producing his own beer, modernizing and expanding the existing facility. Until World War II, the brewery remained a family enterprise of the Paschek family, producing about 20,000 hectoliters of beer annually. During the German occupation it was placed under German administration. After 1945 the owners regained the brewery and resumed production, but in 1946 it was nationalized and became a state-owned enterprise under the management of the Zjednoczenie Przemysłu Fermentacyjnego in Zabrze. In 1951 it was incorporated into the multi-plant Okocimskie Zakłady Piwowarskie. Between 1968 and 1973 it was managed by Nowosądeckie Zakłady Przemysłu Terenowego, then returned to Okocimskie Zakłady Piwowarskie. Annual production at that time was 45,000 hl, and after expansion in 1973 it rose to 80,000 hl. In 1989 the brewery was transformed into an independent organizational unit named Browar Grybów Przedsiębiorstwo Państwowe, and in 1990 into a limited liability company, Browar Grybów sp. z o.o. in Grybów. Shares were held 43% by the Grybów municipal office, 37% by private shareholder J. Warzecha, and 20% by brewery employees. Since 2005 the owner has been Ivan Chovanec, an entrepreneur from Český Těšín, who in 2007, after several years of financial problems, stabilized the brewery's situation and began producing Pilsweizer beer. The brewery's flagship products are lagers under the Pilsweizer brand, including Pilsweizer Grybów Premium (5.7% ABV), Pilsweizer Góralskie (4.7% ABV), Pilsweizer Góralskie Krzepkie (7.6% ABV), Pilsweizer Naturalne Niepasteryzowane (5.7% ABV), Pilsweizer Niepasteryzowane Niefiltrowane (6.8% ABV, 14% extract), Pilsweizer Lach (6.8% ABV), Pilsweizer Premium Export (4.7% ABV, 10% extract, also in 30 and 50 liter KEG barrels), Pilsweizer Exclusive Export (5.7% ABV, 12% extract, also in KEG barrels), Pilsweizer Strong Export (6.8% ABV), and Pilsweizer BOCK (8.1% ABV). The brewery operates primarily in the Polish market and has plans to expand with a hotel and spa center.
