Overview
Brouwerij De 7 Deugden is a small-scale specialty beer brewery and tasting room in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It was founded in 2009 by theologian and historian Garmt Haakma, who was then working as a personnel manager. Brewing at the Osdorperweg on the western edge of Amsterdam began in October 2010, and the brewery was officially opened in March 2011. Since April 2018 the brewery and its tasting room have been located in a new building at Akersluis 8d in Amsterdam, next to the Kuiperijmuseum and the Molen van Sloten. The brewery makes beers with a pronounced flavour, experimenting with herbs such as thyme, spices and smoked malt, and targeting lovers of specialty beer. Its range includes a Tripel, a Gember Neutraal (an IPA brewed with ginger and lemongrass), and a Bock. Its Saison has won gold at the Dutch Beer Challenge, including again in 2024, and bronze in 2022. The beers are available throughout the Netherlands. De 7 Deugden is a social enterprise. Following the example of Brouwerij De Prael, it works with people with disabilities who find it difficult to connect with the labour market and who need a special workplace with guidance. By providing this workplace the brewery also fulfils a social function. The brewery states that lovers of its beer contribute to giving as many people as possible a chance at an ordinary job, to gain self-confidence and to participate in society again. Besides its own beers, Brouwerij De 7 Deugden brews for other beer producers (brouwerijhuurders). It has brewed for Bax Bier, vandeStreek, Breugems Brouwerij, brouwerij De Pomp, brouwerij Molenduyn and brouwerij Oostenburg, and currently brews for Wasted Beers, De Vecht, Bluswater, Flirt bier and De Hoge Noot, among others. The brewery is a member of CRAFT.
