Overview
Brose Sitech is a German-headquartered automotive supplier specializing in complete seat systems, seat structures and interior components. It was formed as a 50/50 joint venture between the Brose Group and Volkswagen AG, with Brose taking over industrial leadership. The joint venture began operations in January 2022, emerging from Volkswagen's former subsidiary Sitech, which had been founded in Polkowice, Poland, in 1998. Brose's investment in Sitech was announced in March 2021, with the stated aim of expanding the seat system business worldwide, doubling production and establishing Brose Sitech as a global player in the seat market. The company develops and produces complete seats ("carsets"), cockpits, seat structures and other interior components, delivering them just-in-time and just-in-sequence directly to customers' production lines. Its customers include Volkswagen Group brands such as Volkswagen, Audi and Škoda, and it also works with other vehicle manufacturers. A carset comprises the complete seating equipment of a vehicle, up to nine seats. Development services cover the entire spectrum from initial design and pre-development through calculation, design, trim and foam development, prototyping and testing to series production support. Around 300 engineers work in development. Brose Sitech operates at around 20 locations in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Spain, Morocco, India and China, with plans to expand to the United States. More than 8,000 employees work for the group. Key sites include Polkowice and Głogów in Poland (seat frames), Wrocław (engineering center), Września (JIT complete seat assembly), and Wolfsburg and Emden in Germany (JIT complete seat assembly and engineering centers). The group has expanded its product portfolio through acquisitions: a 51% majority stake in the Spanish trim specialist Covercar in February 2025, and the acquisition of Proseat, a European manufacturer of foam components for vehicle seats and lightweight expanded polypropylene (EPP) components, announced in September 2025. These acquisitions enable the group to offer foams and trim covers as an integral part of complete seat systems or as individual components. Brose Sitech positions itself as a unique joint venture between an outstanding OEM and an outperforming supplier, combining passion for cars with knowledge and experience. It emphasizes quality at all stages of development and production, project management abilities to respond to changing market conditions, and full-service cooperation. The company has received employer and business awards, including the Zukunftgeber employer seal (2023), the Angel of Entrepreneurship (2023), the first Diamond to the Platinum Statuette of the Leader of Polish Business (2025) and the HR Quality Award (2025).
History
The origins of Brose Sitech lie in Sitech sp. z o.o., founded in 1998 in Polkowice, Poland, by Volkswagen AG (49% stake) and KWD GmbH (51%). Production in Poland started a year later. In 2001, Sitech Sitztechnik GmbH was founded in Wolfsburg, Germany, and its own production halls were built in the Wolfsburg district of Sandkamp. In August 2003, Sitech became a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG. A year later, seat production at the Emden site became part of the company, and a plant for complete seat production was built in Shanghai, China. In 2004, a press shop was established in Polkowice. In 2005, the company founded its own seat development center at the Wolfsburg-Heinenkamp site. In 2013, a seat development center was established in Polkowice and seat frame manufacturing began in Głogów. In 2016, JIT complete seat assembly started in Września. In 2019, a new business unit was created in Group Components. In March 2021, Brose's investment in Sitech was announced, with each partner holding 50 percent of the new joint venture. The aim of the collaboration was to expand the seat system business worldwide, double production and establish Brose Sitech as a global player in the seat market. Brose took over industrial leadership. The Brose Sitech Group began operations in January 2022 as an independent supplier of seat systems on the global market. In October 2023, a further Brose Sitech manufacturing facility was commissioned in Anhui, China, and in 2024 in Palmela, Portugal. In February 2025, Brose Sitech acquired 51% of the shares of the Spanish seat cover specialist Covercar, headquartered in Sallent/Barcelona, Spain, to expand its product portfolio with seat covers and gain capacities and competencies in development and manufacturing in this area. In September 2025, Brose Sitech announced the acquisition of Proseat, a leading European manufacturer of foam components for vehicle seats and lightweight components made of expanded polypropylene (EPP). With this integration, the company expanded its portfolio with seat foam components, headrests and armrests, positioning the group as an integrated full-service provider of seat systems and interior solutions for the automotive industry.
