Overview

Brauerei Stadtbühl is a historic private brewery located at Stadtbühl, a hill in Gossau in the Canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Founded in 1858 by Joseph Alois Krucker of Niederhelfenschwil, it is one of the oldest continuously operating breweries in the region and remains a family business, now run by the fifth and sixth generation of the founding family. The brewery is known for its traditional lagers, including light and dark Lager, Bock, Fürstenbräu, Naturtrüb, Spezli, Zwickelbier, and the low-alcohol Minimal, as well as specialty beers such as Festbier and Hirsegold. The historic brick brewhouse, built in 1880 and expanded in 1900, is a protected monument and was once voted the most beautiful brewery in the Canton of St. Gallen. The brewery emphasizes sustainability, fair trade, regional sourcing, and reusable bottles. In 2013 the sole proprietorship was converted into a stock corporation, Brauerei Stadtbühl AG. The company is a member of the independent association Freie Schweizer Brauereien, promoting Swiss beer diversity. Its website, hammersud.ch, serves as its online home.
