Overview

Brauerei Bosch is a German private brewery based in Bad Laasphe, North Rhine-Westphalia. Founded in 1705 by baker Johann Friedrich Schuppert, the brewery has remained in family hands for eleven generations and is currently led by Hans-Christian Bosch, who took over on 15 September 2007. The brewery deliberately positions itself as a craft alternative to neighboring industrial breweries, using natural hop pellets instead of industrial hop extract and avoiding pasteurization, which gives its beers a shelf life of up to three months. Its portfolio includes classic styles such as Pils, Braunbier, Lager, Naturtrüb (Zwickelbier), Porter (Schwarze Magie), Weizenbier, non-alcoholic beers, and seasonal Doppelbock and Maibock. Under the Propeller Getränke brand, it also produces craft beers like Aufwind (IPA), Nachtflug (Imperial Stout), Turbo Prop (Imperial Pils), and Looping (Red Ale) for national and international markets. The brewery operates its own truck fleet for supplying gastronomy and events, and its beers are sold primarily in the districts of Siegen-Wittgenstein, Marburg-Biedenkopf, Gießen, Hochsauerland, Lahn-Dill-Kreis, and the Mainz-Wiesbaden region. The historic Brauereigasthof Zur Sonne, the ancestral home of the Bosch brewing family, still operates as a restaurant. The brewery holds the Slow Brewing seal, an independent quality certification.

History

Brauerei Bosch traces its origins to 1705, when baker Johann Friedrich Schuppert (1661–1730) founded the business in Bad Laasphe. The brewery was passed down to his son Johann Friedrich Schuppert (1697–1762) and later to his grandson Christian Friedrich Schuppert (1741–1808). Due to the poor soil in the region, the family had to diversify, working as farmers, bakers, innkeepers, and brewers to survive. In 1825, Georg Eberhard Bosch came from the Siegerland region to Laasphe to study with Christian Friedrich Schuppert and learn the brewing trade. Through his marriage to Schuppert's daughter, the brewery eventually took the name Bosch after Schuppert's death. The brewery has remained in the Bosch family ever since, and the Brauereigasthof Zur Sonne, the ancestral home of the family, still operates as a restaurant. On 15 September 2007, Hans-Christian Bosch, the eleventh generation, took over the management of the private brewery. Under his leadership, the brewery has continued to emphasize traditional brewing methods and has expanded its range with the Propeller Getränke craft beer line for national and international markets.
