History
Bovino Vineyards is located in the picture-perfect rolling hills of Templeton, California, and is home to three wine labels: Bovino, Joludi, and gen.er.os.i.ty. It was founded by owner Dan Souza, a wine grape grower and dairy farmer; the name Bovino combines 'Bovine' for his beloved dairy livestock and 'vino' for his vines. The estate vineyards are centrally situated in the El Pomar District of the Paso Robles AVA. The master-planned property is 83.5 acres in total with 45 acres planted to grapes, and 16 unique grape varietals are grown on the property. The winemaking facility and tasting room were designed by local architect Garth Kornreich, who thoughtfully placed the modern tasting room and observation deck to capture stunning sunsets each evening. The property has 27 separate blocks with different rootstock/clone combinations, three primary soil types (loam, silt loam, clay loam), and elevations ranging from 1,020 to 1,125 feet above sea level. It is located only 26 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and a small gap in the coastal mountain range brings cool moist Pacific Ocean air nightly into the ranch. The winery's winemaking philosophy is to create balanced, terroir-driven wines and not burden its wines with excessive ripeness.
