Overview

BOSKA Food Tools is a Dutch food-tool brand that began near the city of Gouda, when smith Willem Bos produced his first cheese tools for local farmers. The company states it has been run by the Bos family for four generations and has been around since 1896. Its product range covers tools for cheese, chocolate, pizza, meat and vegetables, including cheese slicers, fondue sets, pizza cutters and kitchen knives, and the brand says several of its Food Tools have received Design Awards.

History

BOSKA states that it has been around since 1896 and that it started out by making and selling something completely different than Food Tools. In 1896 Willem Bos took over the forge in Bodegraven, where he had begun working as a blacksmith's apprentice in 1883; the forge was given the name Fa. W. Bos Bodegraven, shoeing horses, making farming tools, doing repairs for farmers and cheesemakers, and producing skates with a decorative curl. Willem later opened a store on Kerkstraat in Bodegraven selling cheese and farming tools, building materials, hardware and household products. In 1920 son Jan Willem Bos took over the store, and a second location was opened in 1937. In 1930 the company name was changed to "Bos IJzerwaren Gereedschappen", with a product range that included home appliances, shavers, prams and toys. Son Joop Bos took over in 1956; the sale of toys was discontinued in 1974 and household goods in 1977, and Joop focused on do-it-yourselfers, construction and cheese tools. In 1978 a separate division for cheese tools was established, with professional cheese tools developed and produced in-house for working with cheese efficiently, safely and without any cutting loss, resulting in the establishment of Bos Kaasgereedschappen B.V. in 1993. Hardware and tool sales were discontinued, and the product range expanded to materials for promoting cheese sales such as cheese replicas, counter materials and displays. In 1995 the company relocated to Spanjeweg. BOSKA also states that it has been run by the Bos family for four generations.
