Overview
BORSIG is a German company with a history of over 185 years, offering individual process solutions for applications in the chemical and petrochemical, oil and gas, and power plant industries. The company was founded in 1837 by August Borsig as an iron foundry. Today, the BORSIG Group includes several companies and has manufacturing and service sites in Germany and a branch in Peking, China.
History
BORSIG was founded in 1837 when August Borsig, born in 1804 in Breslau, established an iron foundry before the gates of Berlin. The first successful casting on July 22 marked the starting point. Initially, BORSIG produced screws and rail chairs for the railway, and steam engines. In 1841, the first steam locomotive, the 'Borsig 1', left the factory hall and won the Choriner race against Anglo-Saxon competition. In 1844, BORSIG presented the first self-developed locomotive, 'Beuth', followed by 99 more in the next two years. By the late 1840s, over 1,000 people worked for BORSIG, later around 6,000. Albert Borsig, the son, took over in 1854, and the company became the world's second-largest locomotive manufacturer.
