Overview

Boletín is a Spanish magazine written in Esperanto. It is the official organ of the Federación Española de Esperanto (Spanish Esperanto Federation). Despite its Spanish-language title, the texts appear almost always in the international language Esperanto, except for those that, by legal requirement, refer to the organic functioning of the federation. The magazine has 32 pages in DIN A4 format, in black and white, and is published quarterly. Its content deals preferentially with the Esperanto movement in Spain (local groups, courses, congresses, etc.), but also reports on the international Esperanto movement, the appearance of Esperanto in the press, social issues, etc. Other recurring themes are historical research on the Esperanto movement in Spain and its pioneers, reviews of books in and about Esperanto published in Spain, as well as literary articles, featuring texts by writers who create their works originally in Esperanto, or translations into Esperanto of the best writers of Spanish literature, such as Juan Ramón Jiménez and Federico García Lorca, among many others. The first issue of Boletín appeared in January 1949, shortly after the creation of the association, following the disappearance of most Esperanto associations as a result of the civil war and the climate of suspicion about activities related to the international language. Its first director was Luis Hernández Lahuerta. From 1989 to 1997 the director was Antonio Marco Botella, and after that year Miguel Gutiérrez Adúriz until 2005. From 2005 to 2006 the director was Manuel Pancorbo, from 2006 to 2008 Jorge Pavón, from 2008 to 2010 Ángel Arquillos; from 2010 to 2012 Juanjo Vera. From 2012 onwards (2022) the director is again Ángel Arquillos. There are collections of Boletín in various libraries, more or less complete.
