Overview

Bohor Lodge (Slovene: Koča na Bohorju) is a mountain lodge on the Bohor range in eastern Slovenia, near the village of Senovo. It is the central excursion and recreation point on Bohor, operated by the Planinsko društvo Bohor Senovo (Bohor Senovo Mountaineering Association). The lodge sits in a clearing below Plešivec, a 925-metre peak in the Bohor range. It offers two dining rooms with 90 indoor seats and 100 outdoor seats, an outdoor wooden hayrack (kozolec) for warm-weather seating, and a garden grill available for private hire. The kitchen serves a wide range of drinks and varied, home-style local food. Overnight accommodation is available in five small dormitories with a total of 20 beds; sanitary facilities provide hot and cold water. All rooms are heated, with a traditional bread oven in the old dining room and a fireplace in the newer section. The lodge offers half-board and full-board stays and is suitable for school groups and sports or interest-based training camps. Opening hours are 8:00–21:00 from October to April and 7:00–22:00 from May to September; it is closed on Mondays. The lodge is a membership facility of the Slovenian mountaineering association network and serves hikers, day-trippers, and organised groups visiting the Bohor landscape.

History

The first lodge at the site was built in 1939 by the Lovsko društvo »Bohor« Senovo pri Rajhenburgu (Bohor Hunting Association Senovo near Rajhenburg) as a hunting and mountaineering home (Lovsko-planinski dom). On 24 June 1942, during the Second World War, the lodge was burned down by fighters of the Kozjanska četa (Kozjansko Company) to prevent the enemy from occupying it. After the war, members of the Planinsko društvo »Bohor« Senovo (Bohor Senovo Mountaineering Association) built a new mountain lodge on the foundations of the burned building between 1 May 1956 and 23 August 1959. In 1978, a thorough renovation and modernisation of the lodge began, along with the construction of an annex. Due to a lack of financial resources, the annex progressed slowly and was not inaugurated until 24 September 1994. The lodge continues to operate as the central excursion and recreation point on Bohor, managed by the Planinsko društvo Bohor Senovo.
