Overview

Bogle Family Vineyards describes itself as sixth generation farmers and third generation winemakers making wines of exceptional character and quality. Its grandfather planted the area's first wine grapes in 1968, and the family operates a tasting room in Clarksburg. The winery works with long-term grower partners across California and adopted the California Rules for Sustainability in 2009.

History

The Bogle family traces its farming roots to Captain AJ Bogle, a Civil War infantryman who traveled to the California Delta from his family's homestead in Tennessee in the late 1870s, bringing his nephew Samuel; together they farmed cherries, peaches and pears. Samuel married Anna Meyers and farmed additional lands on Grand Island, planting more orchard acres to supply San Francisco. Their son Vernon continued farming but during the Great Depression the family lost its original Grand Island holdings and became tenant farmers on Merritt Island, south of Clarksburg. Vernon's son Warren purchased 8 acres on Merritt Island after returning from WWII and grew row crops like wheat, safflower and corn. In 1968, Warren and his son Chris planted the area's first wine grapes. The family now describes itself as sixth generation farmers and third generation winemakers, operating a tasting room in Clarksburg.
