History
The founding moment of Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe GmbH (BSB) is traced to 1824, when the first regular ship connection began during the era of the monarchy. King Wilhelm I of Württemberg was a co-initiator in the construction of the first steamship for Lake Constance. The glattdeck steamer "Wilhelm" was used from 1824 between Friedrichshafen and Rorschach/Romanshorn. The name Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe BSB only emerged in the 1960s: to simplify administration and increase economic efficiency, the office "Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe (BSB)" was founded in Konstanz in 1962. It was subordinate to the Bundesbahndirektion Karlsruhe. The federal railway ports of Lindau, Friedrichshafen and Konstanz were subordinated to the office — these three ports still belong to BSB today. In 2003, Stadtwerke Konstanz bought BSB, which has since belonged to the group as a subsidiary. Since 15 May 2003, Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe GmbH has been a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Konstanz GmbH. BSB offers regular scheduled services across the entire Lake Constance with a fleet of 14 ships, as well as excursion, programme and charter trips, and together with the Schweizerische Bodensee-Schifffahrt (SBS) operates the Friedrichshafen–Romanshorn ferry connection.
