Overview
Bockerhütte (Schutzhaus Bockerhütte) is a mountain hut and alpine inn located at 1,700 metres above sea level in the Spronser Tal valley within the Texelgruppe Nature Park, above Dorf Tirol in South Tyrol, Italy. It is a popular destination for day trips and hikes from Dorf Tirol and the surrounding area, and serves as a base for walks and mountain tours in the nature park. The hut is run by the Schnitzer family, who welcome guests and serve refreshing drinks and hearty dishes from South Tyrolean cuisine. For overnight stays, Bockerhütte offers three rooms for two to three people as well as a mattress dormitory (Matratzenlager). The hut has been recognised under the 'Echte Qualität am Berg' (Genuine Quality in the Mountains) initiative, which distinguishes alpine huts and mountain inns that are run in an exemplary and dedicated manner and offer authentic quality. The award is given to establishments that pass a self-test in the areas of gastronomic quality, quality of appearance and, where applicable, quality of accommodation. The initiative is intended as an impulse for further quality improvement and serves as a guarantee of authentic quality and enjoyment in the mountains. Bockerhütte is a member of the Interessensgemeinschaft Spronseralm (Spronseralm Interest Group). The hut was built in the 1950s on the site of a primitive shelter and is named after the opposite Bockberg mountain, on whose slopes billy goats graze. The entire area is part of the Texelgruppe Nature Park. Access is possible from Dorf Tirol or Kuens through the Spronser Tal valley, alternatively partly via the Kuenser Waalweg, in about 3.5 hours (trail 6). From the Hochmuth mountain station of the Hochmuth cable car, a mountain path on the northeast slope of the Mutspitze leads to the hut in about 2.5 hours (trail 22). Both routes can be combined into a circular hike. The hut is a destination for summit tours to the Mutspitze (2,297 m), Spronser Rötelspitze (2,625 m) and Tschigat (2,998 m), high-altitude tours to the Spronser Lakes (2 hours), and is the end point of the 12th stage of the Tiroler Höhenweg long-distance trail. Transitions are possible to Pfelders via the Spronser Joch (5 hours), Stettiner Hütte (6 hours), Hochganghaus (3.5 hours) and Oberkaseralm (1.5 hours).
