Overview

Boadicea Editora is a Galician publishing house founded in 2022 and based in Galicia, Spain. It specialises in fantasy, science fiction and horror literature published in the Galician language, covering both original Galician creation and translations of classic and contemporary authors from European, Asian and Anglo-Saxon traditions. The project grew out of the podcast Baleiro Perfecto, which focused on fantasy topics, and was founded by Alba Rozas Arceo, José Manuel Dopazo and Marcos López, all philologists, doctors and researchers in language and literature, as well as secondary and university teachers with long experience in editing and text correction. The name of the publisher comes from the Celtic queen Boadicea (Boudica), symbolising the difficulties that a specialised publisher must overcome in Galicia. The editorial line is aimed at all reading audiences: children (3 to 11 years), young adults (from 12 years) and adults (from 16 years). Boadicea has three specialised collections for different learning stages: Cartafol de fantasía, de ciencia ficción e de medo (illustrated albums for children aged 3 to 6), A carrilana dos soños (illustrated novels for children aged 6 to 7, 8 to 10 and 11 to 12), and A miña primeira novela de… (illustrated novels specialising in fantasy, science fiction, horror or adventure themes to introduce teenage readers aged 12 to 15 to the different genres). Among its notable publications, Boadicea has published the first Galician translation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot, the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett (including the City Watch subseries), and the complete Earthsea saga by Ursula K. Le Guin in Galician. The publisher received the XX Premio Frei Martín Sarmiento (Translation Category) for Un feiticeiro de Terramar (2023). Boadicea Editora continues to expand the Galician literary system in genre literature, bringing both Galician voices and international classics to readers in Galician.
