Blarney Castle Oil

Blarney Castle Oil and Propane is a Michigan-based, family-owned business that has been operating since 1933. It operates more than 200 EZ Mart convenience store locations in Michigan, offering quality branded gasoline, fresh food, and other convenience items. The company also provides propane and home heating oil services, as well as commercial fuel and bulk lubricant sales. It is dedicated to superior customer service and fair, competitive prices.

Blarney Castle Oil and Propane was founded in 1933 when Dennis E. McCarthy opened a gas station named 'Blarney Castle #2' in Bear Lake, Michigan. The station was named after the historic Blarney Castle in Ireland. During World War II, while Denny served overseas, his wife Helen managed the station. In 1945, the station was renovated and modernized. The first delivery truck was purchased in 1947, and the first Blarney Castle Oil Company Bulk Plant was built in Onekama that summer. The company grew as a wholesale and retail business, acquiring fuel oil customers, farm and commercial accounts, and several dealers. A distributorship with Texaco was negotiated.
