Biscuits Olibet

Biscuits Olibet is a French biscuit brand. The official website states 'Depuis 1840' (Since 1840) and describes the brand's history, including its founding by Jean-Honoré Olibet in Bordeaux around 1840 and the opening of the first biscuit factory in France in 1872.

According to the official history page, Jean-Honoré Olibet (1817-1891) settled in the Saint-Pierre district of Bordeaux around 1840 and began artisanal production of dry biscuits. His son Eugène (1844-1915) joined him and, after a year in the UK around 1860, persuaded his father to import manufacturing equipment, including the chain oven. The Société des Biscuits OLIBET inaugurated the very first biscuit factory in France at Talence in 1872. Three other factories followed: Suresnes (1879), Tassin-la-Demi-Lune (1883), and Renteria in the Spanish Basque Country (1895). The brand obtained the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889.
