Overview
Biketrial Unión Española (BUE), also known in Catalan as Biketrial Unió Espanyola or Unió Espanyola de Biketrial, is the governing body for the sport of biketrial in Spain. It was founded in 1991 by Pere Pi and Enric Rubio, with legal registration at the Directorate General for Sport of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and it has its headquarters in Torredembarra, in the Tarragonès comarca of Catalonia. The organisation is responsible for promoting and developing biketrial across Spain, and it organises territorial championships in various autonomous communities as well as the Spanish national biketrial championship, the highest-level competition at state level. The BUE was created before the formalisation of the BIU (1992), and it was one of the first bodies, together with the BIU, to introduce a two-minute time limit for completing sections in its technical regulations. This innovation was unprecedented at the time and has since been adopted even in motorcycle trials. The first president of the BUE was Enric Rubio, and the first Secretary General was Rafa de la Torre. Rubio was succeeded by Màrius Mollà, father of world champion Armand Mollà, who led the organisation until 2012, when Rafael de la Torre took over the presidency in January of that year. Until the creation of the BAC in 2009, the BUE also organised the Championship of the Catalan Countries and the Championship of Catalonia; these competitions are now organised by the new Catalan entity. The BUE remains active in the promotion and regulation of biketrial in Spain, and its official website is biketrial-spain.com.
