History

The history of Biełłakt begins in the second half of the 20th century, when the need to transition from dairy kitchens in the USSR to an industrial infant nutrition industry became evident. The Soviet government decided to create a new production sector, a large-scale project overseen by Leonid Brezhnev, General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee. Three cities were selected for the construction of plants based on good ecological conditions, infrastructure and labor resources: Istra (Russia, Moscow Oblast), Khorol (Ukraine, Poltava Oblast) and Volkovysk. Construction of the Volkovysk plant began in 1967 and was completed three years later with the opening of the Volkovysk Milk-Canning Combine for Children's Products, which would later become Volkovysk OJSC Biełłakt. For the first time in the Soviet milk-canning industry, production was launched with remote automatic control of all technological processes. At the time of its launch, the combine's production capacity allowed it to process up to 125 tons of milk per day. By government decree, the Volkovysk combine was tasked with supplying infant food to Moscow, Leningrad, Belarus, the Baltics and Central Asian countries. In 1976, the enterprise was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and joined the All-Union Industrial Association for the Production of Milk-Canning Products and Children's Food 'Soyuzkonservmoloko'. In 1977, a workshop for the production of whole milk substitute was put into operation. Between 1986 and 1990, the enterprise was reconstructed together with a French company. In February 1991, the Volkovysk infant food combine was transformed into the lease enterprise Biełłakt, and from that moment the trademark became recognizable by its name. At the end of 1991, Biełłakt changed its form of ownership again, becoming a people's enterprise. In 1995, the enterprise was transformed into Volkovysk OJSC Biełłakt. Since 1999, it has been known under its modern name. Between 2002 and 2008, Volkovysk OJSC Biełłakt carried out its largest modernization. Today the company produces infant formula, complementary feeding products, products for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, milk, cream, ryazhenka, kefir, sour cream, cottage cheese, butter, yogurts, milk porridges, desserts and dessert pastes. It has received state quality marks for BELLAKT PREMIUM 1 and BELLAKT PREMIUM 2 and a Government of Belarus award for achievements in quality. The company continues to expand its cooperation in Asia, including Indonesia.
