Overview
Biblioteka Analiz is a Polish publishing and market-research company specialising in the Polish book market. It is both the name of the firm and the title of its flagship fortnightly trade magazine. The company describes itself as the only firm in Poland with such a large collection of data on the Polish book market and as the largest and best-known consulting firm operating in that branch. Its activities span publishing books and periodicals, running the partly paid portal rynek-ksiazki.pl, organising training for book-industry participants and providing consulting and investment-advisory services through its Centre for Book Market Research (Centrum Badań nad Rynkiem Książki). The firm formally operates as Biblioteka Analiz Sp. z o.o. since March 2002, continuing the output of two earlier entities, Magazyn Literacki Sp. z o.o. and Biblioteka Analiz, which had gathered data about the Polish book market since 1995. Its founder was Łukasz Gołębiewski, an analyst of the publishing and bookselling market long associated with the daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita, who served as president of the company's management board until 2017. The current president of the management board is Ewa Tenderenda-Ożóg, who is also editor-in-chief of the fortnightly Biblioteka Analiz and deputy editor-in-chief of Magazyn Literacki Książki and the literary quarterly Wyspa. Biblioteka Analiz publishes books devoted to analyses of the Polish publishing market. Its cycle Rynek książki w Polsce, an informal yearbook published since 1998, has gained a reputation as a commercial professional publication; in 2008 Marek Tobera described it as a permanent element of the Polish publishing landscape and a basic study of the problems of the contemporary book market. Since 2007 the cycle has been published annually in four volumes: Wydawnictwa (Publishers), Dystrybucja (Distribution), Poligrafia (Polygraphy) and Who is who. Recurring analyses devoted to individual segments of the book market — bookselling, multimedia, books on the internet, school textbooks, academic and scientific books, Catholic books, and children's and young-adult books — also appear in book form. In addition to books, the company publishes the fortnightly Biblioteka Analiz, which has appeared since 2000 and is addressed to an elite target group (managerial staff of the publishing industry). Marek Tobera considered it the company's most important press product in terms of information and promotion, valued for its professionalism and editorial efficiency. In 2013 the magazine received the PIK-owy Laur award, granted by the Polish Book Chamber (Polska Izba Książki). By 2026 more than 650 issues had appeared, available exclusively by subscription through the publisher or distribution companies. The company also publishes the monthly Magazyn Literacki Książki and, since 2007, the literary quarterly Wyspa, which appears with financial support from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Until 2014 the quarterly Wiadomości Księgarskie was also published under its imprint. The company has created the imprint Biblioteka Słów, aimed at promoting original high-artistic prose, especially literary short stories, on the Polish publishing market. Its client list has included Reader's Digest, Hachette Livre, Bertelsmann, McKinsey, WestLB, Onet.pl, Young Digital Poland, BTW, Znak, Forum, Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne, Helion, LektorKlett, Pracownia Pedagogiczna i Wydawnicza and Josef Raabe, among others. Analyses it has carried out cover areas such as the direct book sales sector, the educational book sector (quality of offer, quality of staff, sales methods and efficacy, development potential) and book prices, alongside investment consulting.
History
Biblioteka Analiz traces its origins to 1995, when the firm Biblioteka Analiz and Magazyn Literacki Sp. z o.o. began gathering all kinds of data about various sectors of the Polish book market. The publishing company Biblioteka Analiz sp. z o.o. was entered in the Register of Entrepreneurs of the National Court Register (Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy) on 24 January 2002, and the company states that it formally operates since March 2002, continuing the output of the two earlier firms. Its creator was Łukasz Gołębiewski, an analyst of the publishing and bookselling market who was for many years associated with the daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita and served as president of the company's management board until 2017. The fortnightly magazine Biblioteka Analiz has been published since 2000, addressed to an elite target group — the managerial staff of the publishing industry. The book cycle Rynek książki w Polsce has been published as an informal yearbook since 1998 and gained a reputation as a commercial professional publication; in 2008 Marek Tobera described it as a permanent element of the Polish publishing landscape and a basic study of the problems of the contemporary book market. Since 2007 the cycle has been published annually in four volumes: Wydawnictwa, Dystrybucja, Poligrafia and Who is who. In 2007 the company also began publishing the literary quarterly Wyspa, which appears with financial support from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Until 2014 the quarterly Wiadomości Księgarskie was also published under its imprint. In 2013 the fortnightly Biblioteka Analiz received the PIK-owy Laur award, granted by the Polish Book Chamber (Polska Izba Książki). By 2026 more than 650 issues of the fortnightly had appeared, available exclusively by subscription through the publisher or distribution companies. Ewa Tenderenda-Ożóg serves as president of the management board and editor-in-chief of the fortnightly, as well as deputy editor-in-chief of Magazyn Literacki Książki and of the literary quarterly Wyspa. Beyond publishing, the company runs the partly paid internet portal rynek-ksiazki.pl, devoted to research on the publishing market, organises training for participants in the book industry and provides consulting services. Its research and advisory activities are run by a separate branch, the Centre for Book Market Research (Centrum Badań nad Rynkiem Książki). The company states that it is the only firm in Poland with such a large collection of data on the Polish book market and the largest and best-known consulting firm in the branch, and that it has prepared numerous analyses, research studies and expert reports for many companies, with clients including Reader's Digest, Hachette Livre, Bertelsmann, McKinsey, WestLB, Onet.pl, Young Digital Poland, BTW, Znak, Forum, Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne, Helion, LektorKlett, Pracownia Pedagogiczna i Wydawnicza and Josef Raabe.
