Founded in 1959 by John Parschauer, Ernest Klassen and Heinz Weber, it was originally named Bibel- und Missionsschule and was located in Kalkar am Niederrhein until 1962. It also organizes retreats and various events.

History

Bibelschule Brake was founded in 1959 by John Parschauer and Ernest Klassen from Canada, and Heinz Weber from Switzerland. At that time it was called Bibel- und Missionsschule and was located in Kalkar am Niederrhein until 1962. In the early 1960s, the school received a plot of land in Brake bei Lemgo from the mother of a student. It was an apple orchard, completely undeveloped. Construction began in autumn 1961 with equity of only 600 DM. In autumn 1962, 70 students were able to move in, albeit under primitive conditions. Construction and renovation work has continued to this day. Today, the approximately 27,000 m² site includes the main building with chapel, the teaching building with library, the dining hall building with adjacent gymnasium, the West building for the StartUp discipleship program, the North building, and two residential buildings for staff. Teaching takes place from the beginning of September to the end of April. In the summer months, when the second and third classes are away on internship, the grounds are occupied by guests. Since 1960, the school has conducted retreats, first for youth, then specifically for families. In 1978, John Parschauer handed over school leadership to Doyle Klaassen. In 2007, Matthias Rüther succeeded him as leader, making him only the third leader in the school's over 65-year history.
