Overview

Bibelbund is a German association founded in 1894 in a parsonage in Pomerania by pastors and theology professors, formed to counter the advance of biblical criticism and the liberalization of theology. Its members confess that the Bible of the Old and New Testaments is, down to its wording, the true Word of God received through divine inspiration, and they hold to its complete reliability and factual accuracy. The association states in its statutes that it fully shares the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy. It publishes the magazines Bibel und Gemeinde and Biblisch Glauben, Denken, Leben, and maintains an Edition Bibelbund literature line.

History

Bibelbund was founded in 1894 in a parsonage in Pomerania by pastors and theology professors. Through the founding of the association, they sought to better defend themselves against the massive advance of biblical criticism and the increasing liberalization of theology. Positively, faith in Jesus Christ as attested by the Bible was to be promoted through written publications and lectures. Pastors and co-workers in Christian congregations were to be encouraged to trust more confidently in everything the Bible says and to pass it on to others. Already the founding protocol makes clear the affirmation of the inerrancy of Holy Scripture. Well-known members of Bibelbund included Fritz Rienecker, Prof. Wilhelm Möller, Erich Sauer, General von Viebahn, Dr. Kurt Koch, Otto Riecker, and Dr. Hans Bruns.
