Bezirkskrankenhaus Kempten

The Bezirkskrankenhaus (BKH) Kempten is a psychiatric hospital directly attached to the local Klinikum and simultaneously an academic teaching hospital of Ulm University. Its team of physicians, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and nurses cares for patients with a wide range of mental illnesses. A distinctive feature is the outpatient memory clinic (Memory-Klinik) for people with dementia. Its service spectrum includes acute and general psychiatry, neuropsychiatry and disorders of older age, primary and secondary dependency disorders, psychotherapy and psychosocial therapies, and psychosomatics, alongside outpatient services such as the general psychiatric and geriatric psychiatric outpatient clinic, the memory consultation, the emergency outpatient clinic, the addiction medicine and substitution outpatient clinic, and the private outpatient clinic. The hospital is a modern new building with a view of the mountains.

The Bezirkskrankenhaus (BKH) Kempten is part of the Bezirkskliniken Schwaben, which were founded on 1 January 2008 as an independent healthcare company; its oldest predecessors reach back to 1849. The Bezirkskliniken are an institution of the Bezirk Schwaben. On 1 January 2008 the former Eigenbetriebe of the Bezirk Schwaben were transferred into a Kommunalunternehmen, an institution under public law, and psychiatric, neurological and neurosurgical care services for Bayerisch-Schwaben were united under the roof of the Bezirkskliniken Schwaben.
