Bessey Tool

BESSEY Tool is a German manufacturer specialising in clamping technology and cutting technology. Founded in 1889 by Max Bessey as a bright steel drawing mill in Stuttgart, the company began producing clamping tools after patents were granted in 1936 for a new type of malleable cast iron screw clamp. It describes itself as a global market leader and trendsetter in clamping and cutting technologies, offering over 1,600 products. Its product range includes ERDI SCISSORS and the GROSS STABIL clamping tool brand, both acquired through expansion. The company motto is “BESSEY. Simply better.”

BESSEY Tool was founded in 1889 when Max Bessey established a bright steel drawing mill in Stuttgart. In 1912, his nephew Karl Bessey continued the business. In 1926, Dr. Ing. Eugen Mayer took over as managing director and expanded the production programme in dimensions and quality. In 1928, Dr. Ing. Eugen Mayer married Erna Bessey, widow of Karl Bessey. In 1936, patents were granted for a new type of malleable cast iron screw clamp, marking the start of clamping tool production. In 1944, a branch factory was established in Bietigheim for the production of clamping tools. In 1961, the Bietigheim plant was expanded and bright steel production began there. In 1966, the company transitioned to Dr Erna Fetscher and Dr Theodor Mayer as managing partners. In 1979, the Ernst Diener scissors factory was acquired, expanding the BESSEY product range to include ERDI SCISSORS. In 1983, blank steel production was concentrated in new production halls at the Bietigheim plant and the Stuttgart site was sold. In 2003, distribution partners in the North American market were acquired, originating today's subsidiary BESSEY Tools North America. In 2004, the GROSS STABIL clamping tool brand was acquired and integrated as part of a global growth strategy. In 2023, the first image film in the history of BESSEY Tool was produced to further global expansion. In 2024, the company celebrated its 135th anniversary with an exclusive anniversary clamp.
