Bergader Privatkäserei

Bergader Privatkäserei is a Bavarian cheese dairy. According to its official website, Basil Weixler laid the foundation stone of the Bergader Privatkäserei in 1902, and the company has produced cheese specialties such as Bavaria blu, Bonifaz, edelblu and Bergbauern Käse from Bavarian milk since then. Its cheese dairy produces blue-veined cheeses, creamy soft cheeses and sliced cheese varieties. The company describes itself as a family tradition since 1902.

According to the official company history, Basil Weixler founded a company in 1902 that has produced cheese specialties for four generations: Bergader. At the age of 21, Basil Weixler became self-employed as a cheesemaker, and only five years later expansion followed. After the First World War, the company developed the Bayerischer Gebirgs-Roquefort, a cheese creation unique for its time, today known as Bergader Edelpilz. Inspired by French Roquefort, Basil Weixler developed his own cow's-milk variant; the development received the Bavarian State Prize, and although he lost the subsequent legal case, he gained prominence. The Watzmann inspired the brand name and symbol: the water veins running through the mountain massif reminded him of the blue veins of his cheese, and so "Berg" and "Ader" merged into the brand name Bergader.
