Overview

Beijing Zhongke Science and Technology Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as Zhongke Keyi, brand KY) is a Chinese high-technology enterprise specializing in electron-optics scientific instruments and vacuum technology. Its predecessor, the Scientific Instrument Factory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was established in 1958, and the company describes itself as the first Chinese Academy of Sciences institution to undergo whole-unit conversion and restructuring into an enterprise. Over more than six decades it has focused on electron optics and vacuum technology, undertaking numerous important national scientific research projects. The company states that it developed China's first scanning electron microscope, first turbo molecular pump, and first commercial helium mass spectrometer leak detector, and that its new product development results have consistently represented the highest level of China's high-end electron-optics instruments and vacuum technology. In recent years it reports having successfully developed China's first field-emission-gun scanning electron microscope and first magnetic-levitation molecular pump, both reaching internationally advanced levels. Its business covers scientific instrument equipment such as scanning electron microscopes and helium mass spectrometer leak detectors, as well as core components and industrial equipment including molecular pumps and vacuum application equipment. Products are widely used in frontier scientific research and high-end equipment manufacturing fields including aerospace, semiconductors, automotive industry, new energy, new materials, and energy conservation and environmental protection. Application areas listed on its website include semiconductors, vacuum coating, industrial processes, analytical instruments, scientific research, photovoltaics, and biomedicine. The company was recognized as a national-level high-tech enterprise in 2008, a national-level enterprise technology center in 2014, a national-level "specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative" little giant enterprise in 2021, and a national-level manufacturing "single champion" demonstration enterprise in 2022. It serves as vice president unit of the China General Machinery Industry Association, vice chairman unit of the Chinese Vacuum Society, vice chairman unit of the Integrated Circuit Component Industry Technology Innovation Alliance, and chairman unit of the Beijing Vacuum Society. Its mission is "innovating scientific instruments, developing a first-class enterprise," aiming to build a national team for cutting-edge scientific instrument equipment and high-end equipment manufacturing.

History

The history of Beijing Zhongke Science and Technology spans four stages as described by the company. In the first stage (1958–1990), the Chinese Academy of Sciences Scientific Instrument Factory was established in 1958. In its early years its business was positioned as a mechanical processing and manufacturing center for the entire academy, and it made important contributions to the processing and manufacturing for China's "Two Bombs, One Satellite" program. In 1970 the factory was rebuilt, and its main business shifted from electromechanical processing to scientific instrument development. In 1985 it fully implemented a management system reform, with the Chinese Academy of Sciences no longer allocating administrative and institutional fees, exploring a path of enterprise-oriented development. In the second stage (1991–1999), the organization was formally renamed the Beijing Scientific Instrument Research and Development Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991, becoming a self-financing public institution. During this period it accelerated its marketization process, and its products entered the fields of scientific research, aerospace, military industry, and the nuclear industry. In the third stage (2000–2010), against the national background of "promoting the enterprise-oriented transformation of applied scientific research institutions," it became the first Chinese Academy of Sciences institution to undergo whole-unit conversion and restructuring into an enterprise in 2000, renamed Beijing Zhongke Keyi Technology Development Co., Ltd., entering a period of modern enterprise transformation. It gradually developed into a high-tech enterprise integrating scientific instrument research and development, manufacturing, sales, and service. In the fourth stage (2011–future), the company completed its shareholding system reform in 2011 and was wholly converted into Beijing Zhongke Science and Technology Co., Ltd., improving its corporate governance structure, focusing on its main business, and entering a historical development stage as a high-tech enterprise. Over more than sixty years, the company has consistently devoted itself to the fields of electron optics and vacuum technology, undertaken multiple important national scientific research projects, and developed China's first scanning electron microscope, first turbo molecular pump, and first commercial helium mass spectrometer leak detector. In recent years it has successfully developed China's first field-emission-gun scanning electron microscope and first magnetic-levitation molecular pump, both reaching internationally advanced levels. It was rated a national-level high-tech enterprise in 2008, a national-level enterprise technology center in 2014, a national-level "specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative" little giant enterprise in 2021, and a national-level manufacturing "single champion" demonstration enterprise in 2022.
