Overview

Batibig is a French group of building companies specialising in the renovation, maintenance and emergency repair of buildings. It is headquartered in Clichy in the Hauts-de-Seine department, in the western suburbs of Paris, and describes itself as a platform for taking over traditional, family-owned, highly technical contractors. The group's business is built around recurring interventions for property managers, co-ownerships (copropriétés), public authorities, architects and private individuals, covering trades such as plumbing, roofing, waterproofing, heating, metalwork, rope access work and facade rendering. The group was founded in 2005, when brothers Charles and Justin Bignon took over the plumbing company Chapeau, which had been founded in 1961 in Saint-Ouen and was then in difficulty. From that base, Batibig grew mainly through external growth: acquiring and integrating local specialist firms, financed through leveraged buyouts. A first LBO with the investment fund Siparex took place in 2020, followed by a second in 2022 that brought 15 companies into the group and extended its footprint beyond the Paris region for the first time, to Lyon. Further acquisitions followed in 2023 and 2025. By the mid-2020s Batibig had become a substantial player in French building maintenance. According to its official website, the group brings together more than 50 companies and more than 1,500 employees, carrying out more than 300,000 maintenance interventions a year for more than 15,000 building managers, and reported revenue of more than €300 million in 2025. Wikipedia's French entry gives a comparable trajectory, with revenue rising from €18 million in 2014 to €82 million in 2021, €150 million in 2022 and €220 million in 2024, and headcount growing from six employees in 2005 to more than 900 in 2023 and around 1,200 in 2025. The group's capital is held by its managers together with the investment funds Siparex and EMZ, which entered in 2020 and 2022 to support the company's structuring and development. Batibig remains a private, non-listed group. Its stated priority is customer service, and its model is to preserve the local identity and technical expertise of the companies it acquires while providing them with the backing of a larger group.

History

Batibig was founded in 2005 when brothers Charles and Justin Bignon acquired Chapeau, a plumbing company founded in 1961 in Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) that was then in difficulty, for a symbolic one euro. The company started with six employees and was historically focused on plumbing work. In 2009 the Bignon brothers partnered with Adrien Mullier to acquire Sogecop, broadening the group's activities into other technical trades. Between 2009 and 2015, Batibig bought four similar SMEs, each with plumbing as a core activity and a different complementary speciality. By 2014 the group reported revenue of €18 million and employed 130 people, serving mainly building managers (syndics) and co-ownerships. Growth continued through external acquisitions. In 2020 Batibig completed its first leveraged buyout (LBO) with the investment fund Siparex. In 2022, a second LBO brought 15 companies into the group and the company established itself outside the Île-de-France region for the first time, in Lyon. That year revenue reached €150 million, with Les Échos reporting that 95% of the holding company's revenue was then generated in Île-de-France and the remaining 5% in Lyon. Headcount had risen to 500 employees in 2021. In 2023, five Île-de-France companies joined Batibig, aiming to strengthen the group's presence in public markets. That same year, Batibig took a stake in La Miroiterie Charles Costa. By 2023 the group had surpassed 900 employees. In 2024, Batibig reported revenue of €220 million. In 2025, the group announced the integration of 16 new companies over the preceding months. According to its official website, Batibig then brought together more than 50 companies and more than 1,500 employees, carrying out more than 300,000 maintenance interventions per year for more than 15,000 building managers, with revenue of more than €300 million in 2025. Wikipedia's French entry gives a headcount of around 1,200 employees in 2025. The group's capital is composed of its managers and the investment funds Siparex and EMZ, which entered in 2020 and 2022 to support the company's structuring and development. Batibig's growth model is based primarily on external growth — the acquisition and integration of local specialist companies — financed by LBO (bank debt). Its activities cover plumbing, roofing, waterproofing, heating, metalwork, rope access work, rendering and other trades.
