Overview

Bastardized Recordings is an independent German record label based in Selters in the Westerwald region. It is managed by Marco Andree and has built its identity around the extreme end of heavy music, specialising in hardcore punk and its heavier offshoots such as metalcore, deathcore and grindcore. The label operates its own online store at shop.bastardized.net, through which it sells CDs, LPs, tapes, T-shirts and bundled package deals directly to fans. The catalogue spans both German and international acts. Nationally known groups that have released through Bastardized include Insanity, Bloodattack, Six Reasons to Kill, The Blackout Argument, Neaera, Japanische Kampfhörspiele and Fuck Your Shadow from Behind. The label has also signed or licensed releases from international scene names such as Dew-Scented, Darkest Hour, God Forbid, Awaken Demons, Arsonists Get All the Girls and Converge. Releases carry a BE catalogue prefix, with examples ranging from Converge's 2001 split 'Deeper the Wound' (BE007) through God Forbid's 'IV: Constitution of Treason' (BE021) and Dew-Scented's 'Incinerate' (BE025) to later titles such as Insanity's 'Moneyfest' (BE123) in 2019. Distribution is handled through a network of partners covering German-speaking Europe (Alive), the Benelux (Sonic Rendezvous), France (Sugar & Spice), the United Kingdom (Shellshock), the United States (Interpunk and Relapse Records), Greece (Soundforge Music Group), Italy (Goodfellas), Sweden (Sound Pollution), Spain (Forever Changes), Japan (Artunion), Portugal (Fiomusica) and Hungary (Lethal Conflict). This gives the label a genuinely international reach for an independent extreme-music imprint. A recent example of its output is the untitled split release between the Brazilian band Ação Direta and the German band Japanische Kampfhörspiele, issued on LP and CD on both sides of the Atlantic and additionally as a tape in South America. The label's store lists the split as a DigiCD, a T-shirt and a combined package deal, illustrating its direct-to-fan merchandising model.

History

Bastardized Recordings is a German independent record label headquartered in Selters in the Westerwald. It is run by managing director Marco Andree and has specialised from the outset in the extreme styles of hardcore punk, including metalcore and deathcore, as well as grindcore bands. The label's catalogue is organised under a BE numbering system, and its earliest documented release in the German Wikipedia listing is Converge's 2001 split 'Deeper the Wound' (BE007), a collaboration with Hellchild. Through the 2000s the label expanded its roster with both German and international acts. In 2005 it released God Forbid's 'IV: Constitution of Treason' (BE021), and in 2007 it issued Dew-Scented's 'Incinerate' (BE025) alongside The Blackout Argument's 'Munich Angst & Valor' (BE027.5). The 2010s were the label's most prolific period. In 2010 alone it released Bloodattack's 'Rotten Leaders' (BE049), Grind Inc's 'Lynch And Dissect' (BE047), The Destiny Program's 'Gathas' (BE046), Fuck Your Shadow from Behind's 'Freigeist' (BE043) and Arsonists Get All the Girls' 'Portals' (BE040). The following year brought Darkest Hour's 'The Human Romance' (BE055), Japanische Kampfhörspiele's 'Kaputte Nackte Affen' (BE054), Six Reasons to Kill's 'Architects of Perfection' (BE053) and Neaera's 'Forging the Eclipse' (BE051). 2012 and 2013 continued the pace with releases from Give 'Em Blood, Science of Sleep, Awaken Demons, Purification, Today Forever, Bloodattack, Six Reasons to Kill and The Green River Burial. After a quieter stretch, 2016 saw a renewed burst of activity including Awake the Mutes' 'Snowblind' (BE103), Science of Sleep's 'Hellmoutht' (BE101), The Green River Burial's 'Trauma' (BE099), Today Forever's 'Derangement' (BE98), I Am Noah's 'The Verdict' (BE097), In Other Climes' 'Leftover' (BE096), Rising Anger's 'Of Fights and Lights' (BE095) and Six Reasons to Kill's 'Rote Erde' (BE094). In 2017 the label released In Other Climes' 'Party Animal Advisory' (BE105) and Insanity's 'Toss a Coin' (BE104), and in 2019 Insanity's 'Moneyfest' (BE123). Alongside its release schedule, Bastardized Recordings built an international distribution network. Alive handles Germany, Austria and Switzerland; Sonic Rendezvous covers Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg; Sugar & Spice serves France; Shellshock the United Kingdom; Interpunk and Relapse Records the United States; Soundforge Music Group Greece; Goodfellas Italy; Sound Pollution Sweden; Forever Changes Spain; Artunion Japan; Fiomusica Portugal; and Lethal Conflict Hungary. The label also operates its own online shop, selling physical formats and apparel directly to fans, including bundled package deals. A recent example is the untitled split between Brazil's Ação Direta and Germany's Japanische Kampfhörspiele, released on LP and CD on both sides of the Atlantic and as a tape in South America, and offered in the store as a DigiCD, a T-shirt and a package deal.
