History

Ba Son Corporation traces its institutional origin to Xí nghiệp Liên hợp Ba Son, established on 1 January 1978 under the General Department of Defense Industry of Vietnam's Ministry of National Defence. The enterprise was tasked with repairing and building ships and floating vessels to support the operations of the Vietnam People's Navy and the Vietnam Coast Guard, as well as serving other maritime vessels in foreign markets. In September 2009, Nhà máy X51 was transferred to Xí nghiệp Liên hợp Ba Son, and the organization was renamed Ba Son One Member Limited Liability Company (Công ty trách nhiệm hữu hạn một thành viên Ba Son). This change reflected the broader restructuring of Vietnamese state-owned enterprises into limited liability company forms during that period. On 14 June 2014, the entity was further reorganized and renamed Tổng công ty Ba Son (Ba Son Corporation), reflecting its expanded role as a corporation with multiple member units and diversified operations. Over its history, Ba Son has expanded beyond its core shipbuilding and repair mission into a range of industrial and commercial activities, including metal scrap recycling, sand mining, real estate and machinery trading, wood processing, warehousing, and cargo transport. Its main shipyard is located in Phú Mỹ II Industrial Park in Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province, while its registered headquarters remains at 2 Tôn Đức Thắng Street in Ho Chi Minh City's District 1. The corporation is organized with a head office block containing functional departments and a set of member enterprises covering mechanical work, engines, piping, carpentry, dockyard operations, transport, hull construction, and weapons–electronics. It also includes Nhà máy X51 (operating as Hải Minh One Member Co., Ltd.), a Vũng Tàu branch, a guesthouse and services unit, and Sơn Hải Âu One Member Co., Ltd.
