Overview
Barrandov News was the fourth television channel of the Czech media group TV Barrandov. It first began broadcasting on 5 September 2015 under the name Barrandov Muzika, following the launches of Kino Barrandov in April and Barrandov Plus in May of the same year. From its start, the station was distributed on the Czech terrestrial Regional Network 8, via the Skylink satellite platform, and through some IPTV services. On 1 January 2017, the channel was renamed Barrandov Family, a change intended to broaden its target audience beyond the original music format. Around half of its content was to consist of original productions from the Barrandov group. On the same day, it ended satellite broadcasting and entered the Slovak terrestrial multiplex 2, replacing the departing Markíza. In April 2017, it also joined the DVB-T2 Transition Network 12. On 29 October 2018, the channel changed its name to Barrandov News. The main reason was a shift in its programming schedule, particularly in evening broadcasting: on every weekday it aired programmes by Jaromír Soukup. The station also began showing mainly reruns of its own productions, such as Nebezpečné vztahy, Aféry – neuvěřitelné životní příběhy, Soudkyně Barbara, Soudce Alexandr and others. It also offered a daily teleshopping block called Klenot TV, which was moved to Kino Barrandov in January 2020. From February to April 2019, it also broadcast films. The channel gradually reduced its distribution. At the end of June 2018, it left Slovak terrestrial broadcasting. On 7 January 2020, as Barrandov News, it ended broadcasting in Czech DVB-T2 to free up space for the newly created CNN Prima News. On 31 October 2020, following the shutdown of Regional Network 8, it definitively ended terrestrial distribution. It also ceased to be carried by Kuki, SledováníTV and T-Mobile TV. From November 2020, it was broadcast only via Vodafone TV, UPC and Lepší.TV. On 14 November 2020, the server parabola.cz reported that the station would end broadcasting at midnight on 29–30 November. However, only its programme was removed from the UPC and Vodafone TV offers. The complete shutdown occurred a day later, at midnight on 30 November–1 December 2020.
History
Barrandov News was the fourth television channel of the Czech media group TV Barrandov. Its broadcasting was launched on 5 September 2015 under the name Barrandov Muzika. It was the next channel launched by the TV Barrandov group after Kino Barrandov, which began broadcasting in April, and Barrandov Plus, which started in May of the same year. From the day the station began broadcasting, then as Barrandov Muzika, it was carried on the terrestrial Regional Network 8 and via the Skylink satellite platform and some IPTV services. On 1 January 2017, the day it was renamed Barrandov Family, its satellite broadcasting ended. On the same day, it entered the Slovak terrestrial multiplex 2, where it replaced the departing Markíza. In April of that year, it also entered the DVB-T2 Transition Network 12. At the end of June 2018, the station left Slovak terrestrial broadcasting, and on 7 January 2020, already as Barrandov News, it ended broadcasting in Czech DVB-T2 to free up space for the newly created CNN Prima News. On 31 October 2020, as a result of the shutdown of Regional Network 8, it definitively ended terrestrial distribution. It also ceased to be distributed by Kuki, SledováníTV and T-Mobile TV. From November 2020, it was broadcast only via Vodafone TV, UPC and Lepší.TV. On 14 November 2020, the server parabola.cz reported that the station would end broadcasting at midnight on 29–30 November. However, only the programme was removed from the UPC and Vodafone TV offers. The complete shutdown occurred a day later, at midnight on 30 November–1 December. The music channel Barrandov Muzika from the portfolio of the Barrandov television group was renamed Barrandov Family on 1 January 2017. The programme was intended to appeal to a broader target group than the original Barrandov Muzika. Approximately half of the content was to consist of original production by the Barrandov group. Barrandov Muzika ended under that name and its broadcasting schedule on 31 December 2016. On 29 October 2018, the name was changed to Barrandov News. The main reason for the change was the programming schedule – the change occurred mainly in evening broadcasting: every weekday Barrandov News aired programmes by Jaromír Soukup. The station also began broadcasting mainly reruns of its own productions, such as Nebezpečné vztahy, Aféry – neuvěřitelné životní příběhy, Soudkyně Barbara, Soudce Alexandr and others. It also offered a daily teleshopping block Klenot TV, which was moved to Kino Barrandov in January 2020. From February to April 2019, it also broadcast films. Two days before the start of broadcasting, the station mistakenly showed its logo during Barrandov Family's broadcast; it remained on air for approximately 2 hours. Programming: On weekdays, the station broadcast exclusively programmes by Jaromír Soukup and teleshopping; on weekends, mainly its own productions. Morning and night broadcasting was filled with music clips.
