Overview

Balashi is a beer brand brewed on the island of Aruba. According to the brewery's own account, MetaCorp partnered with Brewtech, a brewing engineering subsidiary of M.P. Farm, to establish a high-tech brewery on Aruba, and the first product launched by the brewery in October 1999 was Balashi Pilsner Beer. The beer was made with the island's desalinated water, malt imported from Scotland, and hops from Germany, and used returnable bottles. In 2001 MetaCorp purchased all shares in Balashi from M.P. Farm. The brewery's product line has since expanded to include Malta Balashi (2001), Chill (2011), and Magic Mango (2020).

History

According to the brewery's own account, in 1993 MetaCorp entered into a partnership with Brewtech, a brewing engineering subsidiary of M.P. Farm, to establish a high-tech brewery on the island of Aruba. The first product launched by the brewery in October 1999 was Balashi Pilsner Beer, which the brewery says took the market by storm. Balashi Beer was made with the island's pristine desalinated water, malt imported from Scotland, and hops from Germany, and its bottles were returnable. In 2001 MetaCorp purchased all shares in Balashi from M.P. Farm to combine Tropical Bottling Company and Balashi Brewery operations at the same plant, and that same year the brewery launched Malta Balashi, a non-alcoholic beverage. In 2011 Chill was introduced as a summertime beach brew, and demand led the company to add Chill to its core portfolio. In 2019 Balashi Brewery celebrated its 20th anniversary, launching a limited brew, B Sixty 2. In 2020, Magic Mango, described as Aruba's first fruit-forward craft brew, was developed at the brewery and introduced to the local market.
