Overview

Babruysk Vegetable Oil Factory (ААТ «Бабруйскі завод раслінных алеяў») is described on its official site as one of the leading producers of bottled oil in the Republic of Belarus, specializing in vegetable oil production for more than 118 years. The company states it operates a full cycle of vegetable oil processing — refining, bleaching, freezing, deodorization and filling into PET bottles — and can produce up to 70 tonnes of quality oil per day on European equipment. Its product range includes sunflower, rapeseed and camelina oils under the «Одэрiха» brand, and it also offers services such as tolling of supplied raw materials, oil storage, private-label filling and logistics.

History

According to the company's official history page, the history of ААТ «Бабруйскі завод раслінных алеяў» began in 1898. In that year a merchant, I.Z. Vilenski, noting that the oil-pressing business in Babruysk district was purely artisanal in character, decided to begin construction and equipping of the first stage of a steam oil-pressing plant; the new plant was located on the Warsaw-Brest highway. In 1901 Vilenski undertook further modernization and even electrification of his plant, with the project designating places for a dynamo machine, a distribution panel and electrical network routing, and he also arranged a flour mill in the existing stone building at the oil-pressing plant. In 1911 a third brick building was built for the growing enterprise, and in 1912 Vilenski installed a 105-horsepower «Hanz» locomobile at the plant. According to archival documents, during the years of Polish occupation the oil-pressing plant passed into leasehold use by a private owner, citizen Gapkin; during the Poles' retreat from the city most of the plant's machines were rendered completely unusable. With the arrival of Soviet power in July 1920, the oil-pressing plant passed into the administration of Belkharchrest, and from that same time it was assigned a name. The company states that over its more than century-long history the plant changed names and owners but always remained faithful to great traditions it honours today.
