Overview
Babcom (Hebrew: באבקום; Arabic: بابكم) is an Israeli business process outsourcing (BPO) company and group that builds, manages and operates customer service, sales, technical support, back-office and digital contact-center operations for leading organizations in the Israeli economy. The name is a coined Arabic-Hebrew wordplay meaning "your door" (bab = door, kum = your), chosen to sound like a high-tech name. The company was founded in 2008 by Imad Telhami together with the late Israeli industrialist Dov Lautman, with the explicit goal of creating employment for residents of Israel's peripheral regions, particularly in the Galilee. Babcom began by providing outsourced telephone customer-service operations, with Cellcom as its first client. It subsequently expanded into technical support, back-office services, sales and digital services, and later added a high-tech operations division focused on serving technology companies and AI-related services. Today the group operates through subsidiaries, including Babcom Centers (the BPO arm) and Babcom High-Tech, and since 2020 also includes SQ, a company acquired by Babcom that provides modular, research- and data-based solutions in service, sales, marketing, digital, management and employee retention, built on its proprietary SQM methodology. In 2011, the Israeli IT group Matrix acquired 50.1% of Babcom's shares, making Babcom a subsidiary of Matrix. Babcom describes itself as a group of companies specializing in technological, operational and business services operating in full synergy. The company reports a nationwide footprint with dozens of sites across Israel and thousands of employees, a large share of whom are women, and a workforce that is notably diverse, including both Arab and Jewish employees. Babcom has received professional recognition in Israel and abroad, including the Dov Lautman Diversity in Business award, and in 2018 Harvard Business School published a case study about the company's vision, workplace diversity and organizational culture. Babcom positions itself at the intersection of advanced technology and committed human capital, offering multi-channel contact centers (phone, chat, WhatsApp, social media), sales operations, back-office processing, unified communications with intelligent routing and automation, consulting for setting up and running service operations, and cybersecurity monitoring services. Its stated social-business model combines a pioneering social vision with uncompromising business excellence.
History
Babcom was founded in 2008 by Imad Telhami together with the late Israeli industrialist Dov Lautman. The founding vision was to create a large enterprise in the Galilee that would provide call-center and other services, thereby generating employment for residents of Israel's peripheral regions. Telhami chose the name "Babcom," a two-word combination with a high-tech sound meaning "your door" in Arabic (bab = door, kum = your). The company initially provided outsourced telephone customer-service operations, and its first client was Cellcom. Over time it expanded into additional services including technical support, back-office services, sales and digital services. It later opened an additional division, High-Tech Operations, focused on operations for high-tech companies and AI services. The company develops and represents advanced technologies in the field of service and technical support. In 2011, the Israeli IT group Matrix acquired 50.1% of Babcom's shares, making Babcom a subsidiary of Matrix. In 2020, Babcom acquired the company SQ, which provides organizations with a range of modular and unique solutions based on research and data, enabling them to improve their business and operational results in areas such as service, sales, marketing, digital, management and employee retention. SQ's activity is based on its proprietary SQM method, which combines a proven scientific methodology, models for predicting business results, advanced technology and extensive practical field experience. Today Babcom operates through subsidiaries, including Babcom Centers, the group's BPO arm specializing in the establishment, management and operation of service, sales, collection, survey and technical support operations, and Babcom High-Tech. The company describes itself as a group of companies specializing in technological, operational and business services operating in full synergy, each bringing unique expertise. According to the company, it employs approximately 5,000 employees across 30 sites throughout Israel, from north to south. Wikipedia (as of 2020) reported approximately 3,000 Arab and Jewish employees, about 80% of whom were women, spread across 12 sites. Babcom has received professional recognition in various competitions in Israel and abroad, including the Dov Lautman Diversity in Business award, a five-star beauty certificate from the Council for a Beautiful Israel, an excellence competition in human resource management by the Israeli Management Center (Hamil), and an excellence competition in human resources by the Association for the Management, Development and Research of Human Resources in Israel. The most significant international recognition came in 2018, when Harvard Business School in the United States published a case study about the company's vision, employment diversity among employees and managers, and its organizational culture.
