Bürgerliches Brauhaus Saalfeld

Bürgerliches Brauhaus Saalfeld is a mid-sized brewery in the heart of Thuringia that brews high-quality beers with passion and a love of experimentation. Its beers have won multiple international awards at competitions such as the European Beer Star Award and the World Beer Cup. The brewery was established in 1891–1892 by the Gütermann family on Pößnecker Straße near Saalfeld station, with its first beer drawn on 15 June 1892. It also produces a broad range of non-alcoholic drinks, including woodruff and raspberry lemonades, Baba Jaga herbal lemonade, and 'Eisfee' sparkling water, and operates a small 'Braumanufaktur' for experimental beers.

In 1891 and 1892, the Gütermann family built a modern brewery on Pößnecker Straße, not far from Saalfeld station. The first beer was drawn on 15 June 1892. In 1908 the private brewery was converted into a GmbH with several shareholders. Ten years later, the Vereinigte Dampfbierbrauerei Saalfeld was acquired by Bürgerliches Brauhaus and shut down, so that from 1918 there was only one brewery in Saalfeld. The malt house belonging to the Vereinigte Dampfbierbrauerei was continued by Bürgerliches Brauhaus until 1952. In 1925 the brewery was converted into a stock corporation, with the majority of shares held by the Riebeck group. In the following years the output of the operation increased enormously.
