Overview

Axel Springer Vertriebsservice GmbH was a German distribution service provider for magazines, novels, comics, puzzles, and non-press products. Headquartered in Hamburg, it operated as a 100% subsidiary of Axel Springer SE and served publishers, retailers, and international markets. The company traced its origins to 1985, when IP Import und Export Gesellschaft was integrated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Axel Springer AG, based in Frankfurt am Main. It was renamed Axel Springer Verlag Vertriebs GmbH in 1992 and moved its headquarters to Hamburg in 1998. In 2007, Axel Springer SE's foreign distribution division was integrated into the company, creating a press distribution network covering 60 countries. The 2011 integration of ZZ Kurier GmbH, a direct marketing specialist, expanded the company into a full-service provider and led to its renaming as Axel Springer Vertriebsservice GmbH. At its peak, the company employed around 70 people in Hamburg and managed over 500 national and international titles from nearly 110 publishers. Its business areas included single-copy sales in German press retail and railway station bookshops, foreign distribution, subscription sales and marketing, direct marketing, special sales, and digital distribution via ikiosk.de since 2012. In 2016, Gruner + Jahr announced that Axel Springer Vertriebsservice would be integrated into its distribution company, DPV Deutscher Pressevertrieb GmbH, effective September 1, 2016. Following this integration, the company ceased to operate as a separate entity.
