Overview

Aws Wärme Service (styled aws Wärme Service) is a German trading company and brand for heating oil, diesel and green electricity. Its registered office is in Hamburg, while its administrative seat is in Bochum. Since 1 January 2011 it has belonged to Mobene GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture between BP Europa SE and Oktan Mineraloel-Vertrieb GmbH, and the business has been fully merged into that brand. The company's roots reach back to the 1950s. In 1958 Gelsenberg-Benzin AG founded Heizölvertrieb Gelsenberg und Mobil Oil GmbH as a sales company. In 1967 the firm was renamed Raab Karcher Heizölvertrieb Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, at that time a subsidiary of Gelsenberg. Over the following years the mineral-oil distribution business was restructured several times: Raab Karcher Mineralölhandel became Veba Oel Vertrieb in 1993, Veba Wärmeservice in 1997, Aral Wärme Service in 2000 and finally Aws Wärme Service in 2004. It later belonged to BP Europa SE and Oktan Mineraloel-Vertrieb GmbH before being transferred into their joint venture Mobene GmbH & Co. KG on 1 January 2011. The core business of Aws Wärme Service was the distribution of light heating oil (HEL). In 2009 the company entered online trading in heating oil and the distribution of electricity. It operated 32 sales offices in Germany. The brand thus represents a long lineage of German mineral-oil distribution businesses that evolved from Gelsenberg and Raab Karcher through Veba and Aral into the present BP/Oktan joint-venture structure.
