Overview
AVR is a Belgian company that manufactures, markets and services a full range of potato machinery for potato growers. Its range covers soil cultivators, potato planters, haulm toppers, harvesters and crop handling equipment, spanning planting bed preparation, planting and ridging, haulm topping, harvesting and storing. The company states its mission is to build machines that let growers work more sustainably and efficiently, and it describes core values of respect, reliability, ingenuity and commitment. Its history is traced back to 1849, when Pieter Vansteenkiste established a forge for agricultural and horticultural hand tools in Roeselare.
History
AVR's own account of its milestones spans 175 years. In 1849, Pieter Vansteenkiste established a forge for agricultural and horticultural hand tools in Roeselare. In 1949 the company started production of potato harvesters in addition to hand tools. In 1973 engineer Norbert Nollet acquired AVR from the Vansteenkiste family and the company relocated from the inner city of Roeselare to its present location along Meensesteenweg. In 1986 it introduced the ARB 230 2-row self-propelled bunker harvester, and in 1987 it acquired Themilco, a manufacturer of potato harvesters, receiving hoppers and elevators. In 1997 came the Solanum 2000 4-row harvester with bunker, and in 2002 it acquired Rumptstad, a manufacturer of cultivators and haulm toppers. In 2003 the Nollet family reacquired AVR Machinery, and in 2006 the first 4-row self-propelled Puma harvester appeared. In 2009 AVR Tools was sold to Talen Tools, and in 2012 the company acquired planting activities.
